THE UST Golden Tigresses are a win away from bagging the bronze medal after escaping the Adamson University Lady Falcons, 25-20, 27-29, 13-25, 25-19, 17-15, in Game 1 of the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference battle-for-third at the Arena in San Juan Sunday.

Back-to-back errors from the Lady Falcons broke a 15-all deadlock in the fifth frame that finished the match for the Tigresses.

“Maganda ang naging playing time nila kasi lahat ng inensayo namin ay lumabas sa game,” UST head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes Jr. said.

Milena Alessandrini’s crosscourt kill and an attack error from Adamson in the fourth set forced a decider.

Leading 10-7 in the third canto, the Lady Falcons dropped a 15-6 bomb, capped by Carla Sandoval’s attack error to take a 2-1 set lead.

Joy Dacoron’s block kill on Alessandrini in the second salvo equalized the game at one set apiece.

Eya Laure’s off-the-block kill sealed the first set for the Tigresses, 25-20.

UST yielded 12 blocks compared to Adamson’s nine.

Alessandrini led all scorers with 31 points while Laure added 21 markers for the Tigresses.

Eli Soyud paced Lady Falcons with 22 points.

The Tigresses will try to end their PVL campaign at third place in Game 2 on Sept. 12, Wednesday, 4 p.m., at the same venue.
