THE UST Golden Tigresses pounded a gritty Far Eastern University-Diliman Baby Lady Tamaraws, 25-20, 36-34, 25-19, in the UAAP Season 81 girls’ volleyball tournament at the Blue Eagle Gym Saturday.

The Junior Tigresses improved to solo fourth place behind a 4-3 win-loss card while FEU fell to fifth with a 3-4 slate.

Imee Hernandez’s down-the-line kill in the third salvo gave UST the win.

“They played their game lang at naging maganda naman ang execution. They stayed sa game plan all throughout,” Junior Golden Tigresses head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes Jr. told the Varsitarian.

With FEU at set point in the second frame, the UST uncorked a three-point swing, capped Renee Peñafiel’s service ace, 36-34.

Trailing 12-16 in the opening salvo, the Junior Tigresses unleashed a 13-4 run, topped by an off-the-block kill from Peñafiel for an early 1-0 set lead.

Hernandez led all scorers with 18 points while Peñafiel chipped in 13 markers for UST.

Shiela Mae Kiseo tallied 12 points for FEU.

Up next for the Junior Tigresses are the University of the Philippines Integrated School Junior Lady Maroons on Nov. 11, Sunday, 4:30 p.m., at the same venue.
