THE UST Junior Golden Tigresses grabbed their second-straight win after hammering the University of the Philippines Integrated School Junior Lady Maroons, 25-23, 25-11, 25-10, in the UAAP Season 81 girls’ volleyball tournament at the Far Eastern University-Diliman Gym Sunday.

The Junior Tigresses are now at second place with a 5-3 win-loss card while the Junior Lady Maroons remained winless in eight games.

Up 7-3 in the third frame, UST sparked an 18-7 bomb, sealed by Junior Lady Maroon Giesha Capistrano’s attack error, 25-10.

“Nagagawa naming ma-control ang laro despite some of our errors. Mahala na hindi namin napapabayaan ang errors masyado,” Junior Golden Tigresses head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes Jr. told the Varsitarian.

Junior Tigress Merry Rose Jauculan’s through-the-block hit ended a 16-8 burst by UST in the second frame, 25-11.

Back-to-back kills from UST’s Jamie Frago and KC Cepada enabled the Junior Tigresses to take the first set.

UST exploited UP’s poor floor defense by pouring 40 kills and 12 service aces. The Junior Lady Maroons only salvaged 12 kills and three aces.

Team captain Imee Hernandez and Renee Peñafiel led all scorers with nine points apiece.

Capistrano had seven markers for UP.

The Junior Tigresses will next face the De La Salle-Zobel Junior Lady Spikers on Nov. 17, Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at the Blue Eagle Gym.
