THE UST Junior Tiger Spikers breezed past the De La Salle-Zobel Green Spikers,  25-19, 25-16, 25-15, in the UAAP Season 81 boys’ volleyball tournament at the Blue Eagle Gym Saturday.

The Junior Spikers tied the Far Eastern University at second place with a 9-4 win-loss card and could clinch a twice-to-beat advantage if they beat the University of the East and FEU loses to the National University tomorrow.

Back-to-back kills from Jose Narciso ended a 9-2 run by UST in the third frame that completed the sweep.

“Napaka-relaxed ng laro namin mula umpisa hanggang huli pero hindi pa enough ‘yon for tomorrow’s game kasi kailangang kailangan namin ‘yon so kailangang mas pagbutihan pa nila,” UST assistant coach Rommel Abella told the Varsitarian.

Up 16-11 in the second canto, the Junior Spikers ignited a 9-5 run, capped by Narciso’s drop ball to grab a commanding 2-0 set lead.

With the opening canto tied at 14-all, UST unloaded an 11-5 burst, topped by Rey de Vega’s service ace to take the upper hand early, 25-19.

De Vega and Narciso scored 10 points apiece for the Junior Spikers while team captain Lorenz Senoron added nine markers.

Andre Espejo and Simon Encarnacion had nine and eight points, respectively for La Salle.

The Junior Spikers will face the Junior Red Warriors tomorrow, Nov. 25, 9 a.m., at the FEU-Diliman Gym.
