THE UST Golden Tigresses finished second after faltering against the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons, 21-25, 25-16, 23-25, 19-25, in the Philippine Super Liga Collegiate Grand Slam at the Arena in San Juan Thursday.

With the Lady Maroons at match point in the fourth set, 24-18, Milena Alessandrini tried to extend the game after a back row hit, but Maristela Layug’s quick kill gave UP the championship.

Tigress Eya Laure’s service error and Justine Dorog’s off-the-block kill broke a 23-all deadlock in the third frame that allowed UP to take a commanding 2-1 set lead.

UST unleashed a 13-3 run early in the second salvo as Dimdim Pacres’ off-the-block hit equalized the game to one-set apiece. The Lady Maroons fired a four-point swing in the opening canto, capped by Ayel Estrañero’s service ace to take the upper hand early.

Team captain Diana Carlos led UP with 17 points while Nicole Magsarile added 11 markers. Laure had 14 points for UST while Alessandrini added 13 markers.
