Tiger Spikers sweep La Salle

THE UST Tiger Spikers made quick work of the De La Salle University Green Spikers, 25-22, 25-18, 25-17, in the UAAP Season 81 men’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan Wednesday.

With the Tiger Spikers at match point in the third frame, Joshua Umandal finished the game with a quick kill to give UST its third win in five games, 25-17.

Green Spiker Chris Dumago’s net violation in the second salvo allowed the Tiger Spikers to grab a commanding 2-0 set lead.

UST was at set point in the opening canto, 24-22, before La Salle committed an error to give the Tiger Spikers an early advantage.

Umandal led all scorers with 18 points while team captain Manuel Medina had nine markers for UST.

Billie Anima had nine points for the Green Spikers while Kieffer Reyes scored seven.

Tiger Spiker rookie Jaron Requinton was taken out of the game after hurting his right ankle midway through the first set.

UST improved to solo third place with a 3-2 win-loss card while La Salle dropped to 1-4.

The Tiger Spikers will next face defending champion National University Bulldogs on March 9, Saturday, 10 a.m., at the same venue.
