UST SPIKERS captured silver in the Beach Volleyball Republic On Tour Dreamwave Open at the Dreamwave White Beach Resort in Puerto Galera Sunday.
UST Lady Spikers MJ Ebro and Derie Virtusio, who played under Xentromall, faltered against Amazing Puerto Galera’s Bea Tan and Dij Rodriguez in the finals, 15-21, 14-21, to settle for silver.
Amazing Puerto Galera extended their 7-5 lead in the second salvo using a 9-2 blitz, capped by Tan’s service ace for the win.
Tan scored 22 points for Amazing Puerto Galera while Rodruguez added 13 markers.
Ebro had 12 points for Xentromall.
In men’s play, the UST alumni duo of Kris Roy Guzman and Anthony Arbasto, who also bannered Xentromall, succumbed to Amazing Puerto Galera’s Ranran Abdilla and Jessie Lopez in the finals, 17-21, 14-21.
Amazing Puerto Galera had a slim 13-12 lead in the second set before uncorking an 8-2 blast, sealed by an off-speed hit from Abdilla for the gold.
Abdilla had 22 points while Lopez chipped in nine markers for Amazing Puerto Galera.
Guzman paced Xentromall with 16 points.
The tournament ran from March 9 to March 10.
