THE NATIONAL University Bulldogs outmuscled the UST Tiger Spikers, 25-20, 25-21, 25-9, in the UAAP Season 81 men’s volleyball at the Mall of Asia Arena Sunday.

The Bulldogs stayed atop the standings with a 12-1 win-loss card, while the Tiger Spikers remained at sixth place behind a 4-9 slate.

Leading 11-4 in the third set, NU fired a 14-5 spurt, capped by Angelo Almendras’ block kill to complete the sweep, 25-9.

“Mababa ang morale ng team ngayon pero their talent is there. I saw that they stepped up during the first two sets but in the end, they lost their confidence,” UST head coach Odjie Mamon said.

An off-the-block hit from Almendras in the second frame allowed the Bulldogs to grab a 2-0 set lead, 25-21

Almendras’ block kill in the opening canto gave NU an early advantage, 25-20.

The Bulldogs dominated the service department with five points while the Tiger Spikers only had one.

Almendras and Bryan Bagunas led all scorers with 15 points apiece.

Joshua Umandal paced UST with 12 markers.

The Tiger Spikers will play their last game of the season against the University of the East Red Warriors on April 27, Saturday, 10 a.m., at the Arena in San Juan.
