THE GOLDEN Tigresses has strengthened its roster as UAAP Season 82 juniors second best blocker Athena Sophia Abbu decided to stay in UST.

The five-foot-eight middle blocker vowed that she would continue to improve her game and never be content with where she is right now.

“As I now enter college volleyball, I will be ready to do and be willing to learn whatever task is given to me, even if it is not my usual position,” Abbu told the Varsitrarian.

“I’ll make sure that I’ll always be ready for every circumstance.”

The 18-year-old spiker acknowledged that she needed to tweak her playing style  as she enters a “more competitive” tournament in the women’s division.

“There’s still a lot of adjustments to make, like reading the opponent’s offense and attacks, especially that I usually play middle blocker. I also have to work on my service and be more consistent,” Abbu said.

The Kagay-anon spiker said that she would use her experiences in the junior division in hopes of contributing to the Golden Tigresses.

“Playing in a highly competitive tournament like UAAP with a lot of great players, learning from their games and using it for my development and maturity to become a better athlete,” she said.

Abbu took home the second Best Blocker Award last UAAP season 82, the last full season, where she lagged behind Alexis Ciarra Miner of the FEU–D Lady Baby Tamaraws.
