THE COMMISSION on Higher Education (CHEd) and Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday inspected the retrofitted facilities in UST’s carpark building, which will be used as lodging by UST student-athletes ahead of UAAP Season 84.

The fourth floor of the carpark was previously used by AMV students. It was repurposed to house members of UST’s basketball and volleyball teams who will participate in the upcoming UAAP season, which is expected to start in February. Each room comes with three beds over three work areas. The rooms will also have one washing room each.

At least 61 student-athletes are expected to stay in the facility once officials approve collegiate athletes’ return-to-training protocols, said UST athletics moderator Rod Sambuang.

Once the “bubble” is established, no one will be allowed in and out of the facility, he said.

“Very strict talaga, walang labasan yan, including yung mga coaches nasa loob din ‘yan ‘di yan pupuwedeng makalabas,” he told the Varsitarian.

Sambuang said results of the inspection could be issued by the CHEd and the DOH as early as next week.

The on-campus training is expected to start in January. Nicole Anne D.G. Bugauisan with reports from Marvin John F. Uy
