The UST Golden Tigresses lost in three straight sets for the first time in Season 84 against the defending champions, Ateneo Blue Eagles on Tuesday.

Lack of aggression proved to be the main factor in their loss, according to head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes.

“Siguro, gusto ko maging aggressive lang ulit. Support system ando’n pero may mga bitaw, e.” head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes said in the post game presser.

Tigress captain Eya Laure who scored 14 points is the sole double digit scorer also acted as a coach of her teammates in a timeout after a lackluster run.

“Magtulungan tayo, hindi pwedeng isa, hindi pwedeng dalawa [lang], kailangan natin magtulungan. Kasi kapag nagtulungan tayo kakayanin natin sila, kaya na natin sila, kailangan lang natin ituloy yung tini-training natin na tama,” Laure said in a third set timeout.

Reyes urged the Tigresses to let go of the drama and treat Ateneo’s drubbing as a ‘wake-up call’.

“We put it this way, bad game lang talaga… sabi ko nga sa mga bata talagang hopefully wake up call kahit papa’no, so kailangan namin i-backtrack what went wrong.”

The Tigresses showed a trend of losing five points every set, 25-20, 25-20, 25-20.

The Tigresses will need more of their aggression in their next game against the De La Salle University Lady Spikers on Thursday, 12:30 p.m., at the Mall of Asia Arena.

UST escaped La Salle in five sets in their last meeting, 26-24, 22-25, 25-27, 25-23, 15-12, where the Tigresses ended the game with a pivotal 6-0 run. Both teams hold a 7-3 win-loss record and are tied at the second spot. Nicole Anne D.G. Bugauisan
