Pierre Abellana scored her first UAAP points on Saturday, helping UST complete a 25-17, 25-23, 25-20 sweep of the UP Lady Maroons.

The attack that got her in the books was an off-the-block kill that won the Golden Tigresses the second frame and put UST ahead two sets to none.

Abellana was inserted again late in the third set and scored three of UST’s last four points, including the through-the-block game-winner that improved UST’s record to three wins and two losses.

Masaya ako kasi umabot pa ng ilang games bago ako naka-point,” Abellana told the Varsitarian.

Abellana, a third-year sports and wellness management student, made the team after showing out during the Tigresses’ Cebu tryouts in 2019.

She became part of UST’s “Golden Trinity,” along with rookies Regina Jurado and Xyza Gula, which carried UST to a fourth-place finish in the Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Conference in November 2022.

Parang may halong frustration noong [previous games] kasi pinapasok ako tas wala akong points. Ngayon, sobrang masaya ako kasi marami ring nagaabang ng first point ko,” she said.

Following the win, which UST needed after a bitter sweep loss against the Adamson Lady Falcons on March 8, Abellana said she was just happy to help the Tigresses.

Hindi pa ganon kalinis [ang laro], pero masaya ako kasi pinagtrabahuhan naminto,” she said.

The Tigresses will next face the Ateneo Blue Eagles on Wednesday, March 15, 3 p.m., at the Filoil Arena in San Juan.
