The UST Golden Tigresses returned to their winning ways after making quick work of the UP Lady Maroons, 25-17, 25-23, 25-20, in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament at the Philsports Arena on Saturday.

Pierre Abellana scored UST’s last three attack points to complete the sweep and give the Tigresses their third win in five games.

An Eya Laure kill brought UST to a 21-18 lead in the second set, but the Lady Maroons went on a 5-3 run to put a scare on the Tigresses.

However, Abellana converted an off-the-block kill to give UST a two-sets-to-none advantage.

UST used a 13-8 run to capture the first set.

Laure had a bounceback performance, scoring 14 points after her uncharacteristic nine-point outing last Wednesday. Milena Alessandrini scored 10 points in her return from injury.

“Magandang balik ‘to mula doon sa last na talo namin,” UST head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes said. “Dito, kahit papaano, nagkaroon ng additional motivation ulit.”

Stephani Bustrillo and Jewel Encarnacion paced UP with 10 markers apiece.

The Tigreses will next face the Ateneo Blue Eagles on Wednesday, 3 p.m., at the Filoil Arena in San Juan. E.T.A.R. Lutap
