UST rookie Regina Jurado powered the Golden Tigresses to a dominant win against the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 25-19, 25-23, 25-14, at the FilOil EcoOil Centre on Wednesday.

After a lackluster five-point outing in the Tigresses’ previous game against UP, Jurado bounced back with a game-high 15 points to lead UST to the victory.

Holding a 16-13 lead in the third set, the Tigresses buried Ateneo with a game-winning 9-1 run highlighted by two Jurado service aces and capped by a Jonna Perdido block kill to complete the sweep.

With UST at set point in the second frame, 24-20, the Blue Eagles gave the Tigresses a scare after scoring three straight points.

However, UST averted a meltdown after an Eya Laure hit put the Tigresses up two sets to none.

UST took advantage of seven Ateneo errors to take the first set, 25-19.

Errors were the story of the game for Ateneo. They committed a total of 25 errors in the game, enough to gift UST a set’s worth of points.

Eya Laure scored 10 points for UST.

Vanessa Gandler scored a team-high 11 markers for Ateneo.

Up next for the Tigresses are the winless UE Lady Warriors on Saturday, March 18, 11 a.m., at the same venue.
