UST TEAM captain Bernadett Pepito and rookie Angeline Poyos were named best libero and 1st best outside spiker, respectively, during the awarding ceremony of the Shakey’s Super League National Invitationals at the FilOil EcoOil Centre on Sunday, Aug 13.

Pepito, the UAAP Season 85 best Libero, spearheaded UST’s floor defense in its bronze-medal-winning victory over the University of Perpetual Help Lady Altas on Saturday with 27 excellent receptions and a 93-percent digging efficiency.

Poyos, a rookie who has emerged as a reliable scorer for the young Golden Tigresses squad, scored 68 points in UST’s last three games, including a 29-point outing against the De La Salle University Lady Spikers and a 26-point performance against the Lady Altas.

La Salle’s Shevana Laput captured the Most Valuable Player and best opposite spiker awards, while fellow Lady Spikers Alleiah Malaluan, Thea Gagate, and Amie Provido bagged the 2nd best outside spiker, 1st best middle blocker, and 2nd best middle blocker honors, respectively.

Adamson’s Angelica Alcantara completed the list of awardees as the best setter.

The Tigresses will head into UAAP Season 86 with a notably younger roster, as the team will be without key Season 85 players in Eya Laure, Imee Hernandez, Milena Alessandrini, Maji Mangulabnan, and Janna Torres. Brenn Allen L. Flores
