FORMER Golden Tigress Sisi Rondina became the first alumna of the UST volleyball program to win an individual award internationally after being hailed as the best outside spiker in the 2023 VTV International Women’s Volleyball Cup in Vietnam on Saturday, Aug. 26.

Rondina powered the Choco Mucho Flying Titans to a bronze-medal finish with a game-high 24 points, securing a 25-20, 23-25, 25-13, 25-18 victory over Japan’s Kansai University of Social Welfare.

The UAAP Season 81 Most Valuable Player was named the best outside spiker alongside Japan’s Hikaru Tamura.

Former Blue Eagle and UAAP Season 81 2nd best middle blocker Maddie Madayag, now Rondina’s teammate, received the best middle blocker award together with Vietnam’s Lê Thanh Thú.

The Flying Titans failed to advance to the finals after falling short against Vietnam 2 in five sets during their semifinal matchup, 18-25, 25-18, 12-25, 25-22, 5-15.

The Flying Titans capped off the tournament with a 4-3 win-loss slate.

Rondina is a two-time Southeast Asian (SEA) Games bronze medalist in the women’s beach volleyball tournament.

She recently made her comeback in indoor volleyball, after a four-year break, to join the Flying Titans in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League Invitational Conference.

Former Golden Tigress Caitlyn Viray also played a crucial role as a starting opposite spiker for the Flying Titans. She had 13 points in Choco Mucho’s bronze-clinching win.
