AFTER dropping their second straight game due to a string of errors, the UST Golden Spikers will undergo a round of tactical training to address their performance, according to head coach Odjie Mamon.

In the first four games of the season, the UST Golden Spikers have tallied 114 errors, the highest in the UAAP.

Despite a strong start with victories over the defending champions NU Bulldogs and the UE Red Warriors, errors have emerged as the team’s Achilles’ heel, leading to recent losses against the DLSU Green Spikers and the undefeated FEU Tamaraws.

While the team is not panicking despite their error-laden ways, the Tiger Spikers will focus on tactical training and recovery, said Mamon.

“It’s too early para mag-panic, 14 games ang elimination round. Ikaapat na game pa lang ‘to,” Mamon told the Varsitarian after UST’s loss to FEU. “For tomorrow, we will have recovery and then we’ll have three days na tactical training.”

Against DLSU, UST committed 40 errors, the most by any team this season. In their latest loss against FEU, the Golden Spikers committed 28.

“Errors happened,” Mamon said. “Na-neutralize naman ‘yong opponents e, the adjustments were made, errors lang talaga sa attacking.”

UST dropped to a 2-2 slate and figured into a three-way tie with Ateneo and Adamson. FEU (4-0), NU (3-1) and DLSU (3-1) are ahead in the standings.

The UST Golden Spikers will next face the Ateneo Blue Eagles at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday, March 9, at 10 a.m.
