USTv Awards revise categories, criteria

THIS year’s USTV Student’s Choice Awards (USTv) have slightly revised the criteria and categories to better promote Christian values in television programming.

Random drug testing underway

AFTER the mandatory drug testing of freshmen last semester, UST will conduct random drug-testing of students from the higher years this second semester.

“Only a small population of the University will be tested randomly for drugs because the government has limited budget to shoulder the drug testing,” Jo Obispo, office assistant for discipline of the Office for Student Affairs, told the Varsitarian. “For example, only 30 or 50 students from the higher levels (sophomores to seniors) will be tested.”

Lucio Tan receives new equivalency degree from Eng’g

BUSINESS magnate Lucio Tan is now a certified Chemical Engineering graduate after receiving his second academic degree from the University last Oct. 3 at the Benavidez Library Auditorium.

Tan got his bachelor’s degree under the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEAP), an educational assessment scheme similar to non-thesis track degrees.

Russian chief justice honored

AN EFFICIENT justice system should be able to give legal assistance to its citizens and guarantee execution of its court decisions, said Russian Federation Chief Justice Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Lebedev who received a Doctor of Laws degree, honoris causa from UST, last Oct. 18 at the Thomas Aquinas Research Complex Auditorium.
