Its almost four in the morning. I have a major plate and this column due in 24 hours. My eyelids feel so heavy that it’s hard to view, much less write this article properly. It has been three straight days without sleep going to our finals week.

People often asks me why I waste my time on extra-curricular activities and organizations. “Matulog ka na lang. Kailangan mo ‘yun, e,” they would say. Indeed, to most people, extra-curricular activities are simply a waste of precious time. But do they themselves know how to spend this “precious time”?

IT WAS a cloudy day and an early afternoon rain shower appeared imminent, but stubbornness got the better of me, so I decided to forego bringing an umbrella on my way to a very late lunch in Dapitan.

Sure enough, the rain began to pour. What started out as slight drizzle turned into a torrential downpour.

Alas, I paid dearly for my stubbornness and as much as I would like to return to UST, I had no choice but to wait out the rain. The wait cost me a good 15 minutes and as expected, a considerable part of Dapitan was already submerged in ankle-deep water.

WHAT’S with foreign the TV shows in Filipino?

I recently chanced upon an American movie dubbed in Filipino. The translation sounded funny because it failed to capture the emotions of the original lines. I realized how funny and stupid a taglish or an engalog sounds.

Television outfits say that the main reason for translating boob-tube programs into our own language is that they want the younger kids and the masa to easily understand the programs. Well, that should not be the case.

I HAVE this friend from Davao who is a medicine student. We would text every now and then about nothing in particular, but there was one time when she caught me reading a book by an abortionist turned pro-life advocate. I asked her if she was for abortion and, surprisingly, she said she was. It quickly turned into a heated debate, as I am personally against abortion.
