Nov. 21 2016, 12:38 a.m. – MANILA Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo has criticized the public’s lack of concern over the mounting cases of extrajudicial killings linked to the anti-drug war of President Rodrigo Duterte.

“Kristiyano ba ang mga [tao] na nananahimik sa mga taong inaapi? Isasarado lang ang mga mata at bibig para kunwari walang alam sa ekstrahudisyal na pagpatay. Kristyano ba iyan?” Pabillo said in a conference at the San Carlos Seminary on Nov. 19.

Pabillo, chairman of Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines Episcopal Commission on Laity, also lamented Filipinos’ lack of concern toward those who live in poverty.

“[Maraming] mahihirap sa Pilipinas dahil maraming mayayaman. Kung tayo lang ay mapagbigay, walang maghihirap,” he said.

The bishop urged the laity to “make use of material resources to bear good things.”

“We draw inspiration from the Eucharist so that our economic activities may be Christianized,” he said.

The four-hour event was part of the 2016 Katolikong Pinoy Formation Series, a year-long activity at the Lay Formation Center (Layforce) program of the Archdiocese of Manila.
