Thomasian bishop dies at 68


Bishop Rodolfo Beltran, prelate of San Fernando in La Union, passed away last June 17 after a bout with prostate cancer. He was 68 years old.

Beltran earned his bachelor’s and licentiate degrees in theology in UST. He obtained his doctorate in philosophy at the Dominican-run Angelicum in Rome.

In 2006, he served as bishop of Bontoc-Lagawe. He was sent to San Fernando in 2012.

In June 2015, Beltran was admitted to the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Dominic, along with Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas.

His remains lie at the Diocesan Seminary of the Heart of Jesus in San Fernando until June 25 before being transferred to San Fernando Cathedral on June 26. The funeral mass will be on June 27 at 9 a.m.
