DEVOTEES of Our Lady of La Naval de Manila were urged on Thursday to strive for holiness by emulating Mary’s simplicity during the enthronement Mass at the Santo Domingo Church in Quezon City.
“Mary is the very model of life we should live. Her holiness is still remembered here. She renounced her own personal gain and she grew more by means of her small gestures of kindness and love,” said Fr. Roger Quirao, O.P., prior of the Santo Domingo Convent, in his homily.
Echoing the Holy Father, Quirao said holiness is not found in “complex ideologies” but in living a simple lifestyle.
Quirao challenged the devotees to follow Mary’s readiness to help those in need.
“Let’s hope that through our prayers and the Blessed Mother’s intercession, we may experience a change in each of our lives and in our faith,” he said in Filipino.
The Santo Domingo Museum, which features Marian devotions and an ivory replica of Our Lady of La Naval, was opened and would be available for public viewing until Oct. 15.
The enthronement rites kicked off the La Naval festivities. Novena masses were set from Oct. 5 to Oct. 13.
The fiesta Mass will be led by Cubao Bishop Honesto Ongtioco, on Oct. 14.
