MANILA Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle called on the faithful to protect the Catholic Church amid persecution during the Mass for the Pope’s Day celebration at the Manila Cathedral on Saturday.

He said one could protect the Church by understanding the “never-ending dialogue in history between God and His people of building and protecting His Church.”

“Prepare yourselves in answering who Jesus is to you. Do not to be ashamed in proclaiming who He is,” Tagle said.

Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Gabriele Caccia led the Eucharistic celebration and the traditional vesting of the image of St. Peter.

Pope’s day is celebrated annually during the feast of St. Peter and St. Paul. with reports from Ma. Alena O. Castillo
