THE UNIVERSITY will welcome on Friday, Jan. 27, the relic of St. Titus Brandsma, a journalist-martyr canonized by Pope Francis in May 2022.
Brandsma, a Dutch Carmelite and a theologian who opposed anti-semitism and Nazi ideology, was beatified by Pope John Paul II on Nov. 3, 1985. He was declared a saint on May 15, 2022.
Titus Brandsma was killed with a lethal injection at the Dachau concentration camp in 1942 as part of the Nazis’ medical experimentation on prisoners.
His relic will arrive at 4 p.m. from the Carmel of St. Joseph in Lucena City, Quezon.
Coinciding with the relic’s arrival is the University Fiesta Mass in honor of St. Thomas Aquinas, to be presided by Bishop Emeritus Teodoro Bacani of Novaliches, and the launching of his triennium in commemoration of the UST patron saint’s canonization, death and birth from 2023 to 2025.
On Saturday, Jan. 28, a University holiday, a Eucharistic celebration and a catechesis on Titus Brandsma will be held at the Santisimo Rosario Parish Church at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., respectively.
