Catholic Bishop Conference of the Philippines President Bishop Pablo Virgilio David (sixth from left) turned over four centuries’ worth of microfilm copies of Catholic records to UST Rector Fr. Richard Ang, O.P. (seventh from left) on Monday, March 28.

THE CATHOLIC Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) turned over four centuries’ worth of microfilm copies of Catholic records to the University on Monday, March 28.

The records of baptism, confirmation, marriage, and death dating back to the early 1600s were compiled by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. These were given to former CBCP president Archbishop Romulo Valles in 2019.

CBCP President Bishop Pablo David thanked UST for guarding the documents to make them available to researchers.

In his remarks, UST Rector Fr. Richard Ang, O.P. expressed the University’s readiness to aid the CBCP.

Malaking bagay po ito na ipinagkatiwala sa amin ng CBCP. Parati kaming handang tumulong sa pangangailangan ng CBCP,” Ang said.

The records will be placed in an environmentally controlled space, according to the deed of donation kept by the Office of the Secretary General.

The records are accessible to the academic staff and student researchers at the Miguel de Benavides Library. Justin Benedict T. Lim
