NO ILLNESS prevented the late religious superior and Varsitarian assistant publications adviser Sister Regina Kuizon from nurturing the followers of Christ and serving the poor and the Church, two clerics said.

During the funeral Mass in honor of Kuizon on Friday, June 30, Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas said the late superior of the Religious of Good Shepherd Province of the Philippines and Japan “nurtured so many souls from the breast of her soul.”

“As a woman, she gave birth to children, not in the physical sense, but she gave birth to thousands of men when she dedicated her life to the poor and Church,” he said in his homily.

“She fed us with her writings, with her prayers. She fed us with her light, presence, and smiling eyes,” Villegas said.

Kuizon graduated with a degree in journalism from the University in 1983.

Having been trained as a writer through her journalism school experience and tenure as Special Reports editor of the Varsitarian, Kuizon went on to work for several Catholic publications before joining the Good Shepherd sisters in 1990.

Fr. Nicanor Lalog II, a Varsitarian alumnus and former GMA News and Public Affairs reporter, lauded Kuizon’s selflessness amid her illness.

“The joy of Sister Gina is to share the good news with the people,” he said during the requiem Mass on Thursday, June 29, which was attended by Varsitarian staffers and alumni.

“Sister Gina was so brave. Not even her sickness could imprison her and refrain her from being kind, from being truthful and from being a disciple of God…The joy of Sister Gina is to share the good news to the people,” Lalog added.

Kuizon, who was supposed to turn 61 on July 5, passed away on June 26 due to metastatic cancer.

Her remains were cremated and placed at the Good Shepherd Columbary. Angeli Ruth R. Acosta and Jenna Mariel A. Gonzales
