May 23, 2015, 4:00 p.m. – THE UNIVERSITY was named third top-performing school in the March 2015 off-season licensure examination for teachers (LET) in the secondary level, while one Thomasian entered the top 10.
UST recorded an 89.06-percent passing rate, meaning 57 passed out of 64 examinees. This was slightly lower than last year’s 89.29 percent, equivalent to 50 passers out of 56 examinees. UST was named the second top-performing school last year.
UST trailed behind University of the Philippines (UP)-Diliman and Saint Louis University, which had 95.24- and 90.32-percent passing rates rates, respectively.
Leading the new batch of Thomasian high school teachers is Jinky Marie Bahiwag who shared the eighth spot with Millie Flor Adam of UP-Ilo-Ilo, Stephen Paul Cajigas of UP-Cebu, Mac Anthony Casamorin of De La Salle University-Dasmariñas, Dexby de Guzman of Xavier University, and UP-Diliman’s Anne Bernadette Santos and James Tumlos. All scored of 89 percent.
Meanwhile, UST registered an 85.71-percent passing rate in the LET-elementary level. Six Thomasians, all first-time takers, passed out of seven UST examinees. Last year, the Univerity had a 100-percent passing rate as all three UST examinees passed.
De La Salle University-Manila and UP-Diliman, which recorded 100-percent passing rates, were named top-performing schools.
UST failed to get in the list of top-performing schools because the Professional Regulation Commission requires a minimum of 20 examinees and at least an 80 percent passing rate.
The national passing rate for LET-secondary went up to 31.63 percent or 17,904 passers out of 56,596 examinees, from last year’s 28.41 percent or 12,033 passers out of 42,358 examinees.
For LET-elementary, the overall passing rate went down to 27.42 percent or 12,103 passers out of 44,144 examinees, from last year’s 28.98 percent or 11,120 passers out of 38,377 examinees. Robert A. Vergara, Jr.
