THE UST Growling Tigresses opened their UAAP Season 80 campaign by demolishing the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons, 85-58, at the Mall of Asia Arena Sunday.
The Tigresses pulled away for good with a 21-1 run in the fourth.
“UP was close there at the third quarter, ‘nung fourth quarter lang kami pumiglas,” UST head coach Haydee Ong told the Varsitarian. “[But I] was still happy that we got our first win.”
Team captain Jhenn Angeles led the UST with 24 points, including three triples, while Sai Larosa poured in 19 markers and nine rebounds.
Iriss Isip paced UP with 22 markers and seven rebounds while Daphne Esplana chipped in 12.
UST will face the Adamson University on Sep. 16, Saturday, 10 a.m., at the Araneta Coliseum.
