TWO GOLDEN Sox will banner the Philippine national team in the 2017 XXVII BFA Asian Championship in Tainan, Taiwan from October 2 to 8.
Golden Sox pitchers Lesmar Ventura and Ron Christian Dela Cruz will join the 24-man pool of UST head coach Jeffrey Santiago and assistant coach Jon-Jon Robles.
“Their expertise in pitching would be a big factor to the success of the team,” Santiago said in an online interview with the Varsitarian.
From 60 hopefuls, Ventura and Dela Cruz made the cut following weekly tryouts.
“Overwhelming pero nandoon ‘yung pressure dahil Pilipinas ang dala namin. Sa bawat laro, parang one miss then you die ang [mindset]. Kung anong turo noong training at sabi ni coach, ‘yun ang gagawin ko,” Ventura said.
Santiago said the team started training last May.
Other participating countries are South Korea, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Australia and China.
