THE UST Growling Tigresses survived a pesky De La Salle University Lady Archers, 68-56, in the UAAP Season 80 women’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena Wednesday.
The Tigresses outscored La Salle in the third, 24-11, to take a 54-37 lead heading into the fourth period and never looked back.
“We started very slow and we ended the fourth quarter very sloppy. [But] we got our momentum late in the second hanggang third quarter,” UST coach Haydee Ong said.
UST scored 27 points off 29 turnovers from the Lady Archers.
Anjel Anies led UST with 15 points while team captain Jhenn Angeles and Kikay Gandalla combined for 24 markers.
UST took a firm grip on the second seed with an 8-1 win-loss record.
Lady Archer Joehanna Arciga poured in 20 markers and 16 rebounds for La Salle.
UST will next face the University of the East on Oct. 22, Sunday, 10 a.m., at the the Arena in San Juan.
