THE UST Tiger Cubs finished with an 11-3 run to dismantle the University of the East Junior Warriors, 106-99, in the UAAP Season 80 boys’ basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan Saturday.
Tiger Cub Vince Dolendo sank six freethrows in the waning seconds to seal the victory.
“Nag-respond naman sila, naibalik natin ‘yung defense, naka-stop tayo nang naka stop,” UST head coach Chris Cantonjos said.
UST pulled ahead by 14 midway through the payoff period, 90-76, before UE surged back with a 20-5 run.
CJ Cansino led UST with a monster double-double of 32 points and 25 rebounds while Cyril Narvasa added 23 markers on a perfect 11-for-11 from the field.
Agem Miranda had 36 points and nine dimes for the Junior Warriors.
UST ended the first round of eliminations with a 5-2 win-loss slate.
