THE UST Tiger Spikers posted twin victories over National University and Adamson University in the UAAP men’s beach volleyball tournament at the SM Sands by the Bay Monday.

UST is now the only undefeated team with a 6-0 record, after Far Eastern University lost to the University of the Philippines.

UST took advantage of NU’s 16 errors while committing only seven to hand the Bulldogs their second loss of the season, 21-15 and 21-14.

The Tiger Spikers trailed by two points in the second set, 9-11, but were able to string together seven straight points behind five NU errors, 16-11. A hit by Anthony Arbasto wrapped the game up for UST.

Kris Roy Guzman paced UST with 17 points while Arbasto added nine points in the win.

Fauzi Ismali impressed with 17 points for the Bulldogs but lacked support on offense as teammate Madslan Gampong registered only five points.

In the second game, Guzman once again scored 17 points while Arbasto contributed 14 markers as the Tiger Spikers drubbed the Soaring Falcons, 21-12 and 21-16.

UST dominated early in the second set, 10-5, but a 7-2 Adamson run tied the game at 12-all. UST regained its composure as Guzman’s hit sealed the Tiger Spikers’ sixth win.

“Hayaan naming kami ang aakyatin nila sa taas. Pipilitin naming umabot, pero dahan-dahan lang,” said UST coach Paul Jan Doloiras.

UST must defeat FEU on Friday, Oct. 7, at the same venue, to secure an automatic finals slot.
