Kris Roy Guzman left the SM Sands by the Bay sand court last Saturday for the last time as a UST player.
He and partner Anthony Arbasto came up short against the National University Bulldogs (16-21, 21-14, 13-15), who bagged the UAAP beach volleyball title.
It was Guzman’s third defeat against the Bulldogs in the finals. He had lost a total of four.
But Guzman, who has completed his playing years for UST, is leaving with no bitterness despite the setbacks.
“‘Binigay ko ang buong puso ko rito kaya wala nang sakit pang natitira,” he said.
Guzman and Arbasto bagged one championship out of their three finals appearances as teammates.
Coach Paul Jan Doloiras said Guzman became the heart and soul of UST’s beach volleyball program since he came in 2013 and led the team to five finals appearances.
“Hindi matatawaran ng kahit sino ang leadership ni KR (Guzman). Lahat tina-trabaho niya para sa ikaayos ng team,” Doloiras said.
Doloiras said Junior Spiker Jaron Requinton was being eyed to replace Guzman.
