Oct. 23 2016, 8:40 p.m. – THE UST Tigersharks failed to bag a medal on the third day of the UAAP Season 79 swimming tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Sunday.

Tigersharks Jux Keaton Solita and Bryan Kyle Celestial reached the finals of the 200-meter freestyle, 50-meter butterfly and 400-meter individual medley events but fell short against powerhouses Ateneo De Manila University and University of the Philippines.

In women’s play, Julianne Khryztell Torres had the chance to clinch a medal in the 100-meter breaststroke but UP and Ateneo reigned supreme once again.

The Female Tigersharks still hold a 0-2-2 gold-silver-bronze record while their male counterparts only have one silver medal.

“I’m still satisfied with the way my team played today’s game. I cannot ask them to win medals if their opponents are from the national team, it is difficult. They followed my instruction to at least reach the finals and do their best,” head coach Cyrus Alcantara told the Varsitarian.

In the juniors’ division, the boys team collected a gold, three silver and two bronze medals while the girls team clinched a gold, two silvers and a bronze.

Junior Female Tigershark Camille Buico ruled the 50-meter butterfly event and established a new UAAP record of 29.40 seconds.

Junior Tigersharks Reynard Gomez James Alfon Ellsworth, Brayan Carlo Camacho and Gabriel Guerrero broke the record in the boy’s 200-meter freestyle relay with 1:43.73 seconds.

UAAP swimming continues tomorrow at the same venue.
