THE UST Junior Golden Tigresses pounded the University of the Philippines Integrated School Junior Lady Maroons, 25-14, 25-10, 25-8 in the UAAP Season 80 girls’ volleyball tournament opener at the Arena in San Juan Saturday.
The Junior Tigresses led early in the third set, 4-2, and pulled away for good with a 14-3 run. Imee Hernandez’s service ace sealed the win, 25-14.
UST dropped a 15-0 bomb on the Junior Lady Maroons at the start of the second frame to build a commanding lead.
A mishit by UP gave the Tigresses a 2-0 lead. Leading 14-13 in the opening salvo, UST went for an 11-1 blast capped by a Hernandez quick hit to draw first blood, 25-14.
“Laro lang kung ano talaga laro nila and then bawasan lang ang errors. Then magsimula kami sa paisa-isang puntos para dire-diretso,” head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes Jr. told the Varsitarian.
Eya Laure and Hernandez led the Junior Tigresses with 12 points apiece.
The Tigresses will next face the De La Salle-Zobel Junior Lady Archers on Monday, Sept. 11, 11 a.m., at the same venue.
