UST junior spikers dominate UP for 8th win

THE UST Junior Tiger Spikers drubbed the University of the Philippines Integrated School Junior Fighting Maroons, 25-13, 25-17, 25-14, in the UAAP Season 80 boys’ volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan Sunday.

The Junior Tiger Spikers improved to an 8-3 card for third place.

UST iced the game with a 15-6 run capped by Rey de Vega’s crosscourt kill, 25-14.

“We just want to give other players playing time kasi baka hindi natin alam, kailanganin natin (sila) sa dulo,” UST assistant coach Rommel Abella said.

The Tiger Spikers sizzled with a 14-7 blitz in the middle of the second set to erect a commanding 20-11 lead. A service error by Kenneth Caguiat gave UST a commanding 2-0 advantage.

UST broke free from a close first set with a 14-3 rally sealed by a service error from UP’s Samuel Silvestre to gain first blood.

Jaron Requinton led UST with eight points while Kenneth Cawaling added seven markers.

Ron Castro had five points for UP.

Up next for the Junior Tiger Spikers are the De La Salle-Zobel Junior Archers on Nov. 8, Wednesday, 11 a.m., at the same venue.
