Outside hitter EJ Laure’s shoulder injury is a “big loss,” but the UST Golden Tigresses still have enough firepower to make up for her absence and improve on their third-place finish last season, coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes Jr. said.

Laure, a former rookie of the year, aggravated her shoulder injury and will miss the season. She has been experiencing shoulder pains since August 2016 and received treatment last year.

“Malaki siyang kawalan pero tuloy pa rin kami, kumpleto naman ‘yung tao natin,” Reyes told the Varsitarian.

“Hindi naman tayo nagre-rely sa iilang tao lang eh. Nagre-rely tayo sa buong team,” Reyes Jr. told the Varsitarian.

The team will rely on Carla Sandoval to fill in Laure’s absence.

Laure is expected to play in Season 81, alongside her younger sister, Eya. The younger Laure has consumed all her playing years in the juniors’ division. Eya Laure has reportedly committed to joining the Golden Tigresses.

UAAP volleyball action will start on February 4.
