EXQUISITE works of four Thomasian National Artists are featured in a tribute exhibit for National Artists for Visual Arts that opened last Feb. 12 at the Ayala Museum in Makati.

Former Varsitarian art director and painting alumnus J. Elizalde Navarro’s oil on canvas work, “Mother Earth Awesome in her Beauty,” stands out with its vibrant mix of blue, yellow, green and red paint.

“Juggler,” a mixed-media piece by Fine Arts graduate and pioneer print maker Arturo Luz, is an eye catcher with its loud, bright red color scheme.

An untitled oil on canvas painting of still life by Ang Kiukok, another Fine Arts alumus, is also on display.

Sketches of characters from Rizal’s “Noli Me Tangere” by Carlos “Botong” Francisco, former faculty member of the old College of Architecture and Fine Arts, are a sure gem amongst the excellent collection of works.

“The program’s goal is to showcase the works of these National Artists and share to the museum audience their views of the country,” Kenneth Esguerra, senior curator of the exhibit, told the Varsitarian.

“The exhibit will shed a little light on the lives of these great artists through our prized collection of their works,” he added.

The exhibit runs until the end of May.
