THOMASIAN artist Raul Isidro evoked childhood sentiments on nature in his solo exhibit “Colorati,” which opened on Aug. 28 at the UP Town Center mall in Quezon City.
Isidro, who graduated from the University with a degree in advertising in 1965, is well-known for his artworks inspired by the rock formations from his hometown in Western Samar.
“Doon [sa Samar], nakita ko [‘yung rock formations], especially sa labas ng city. Sa dagat, bundok, lahat ‘yan puro bato sa pinanggalingan ko. So inikot ko, at kung ano ‘yung naaalala ko, ayun ‘yung nilalabas ko, which I turn into abstract compositions,” Isidro told the Varsitarian.
Using irregular shapes to capsulize the “paradigm of nature,” Isidro created different abstract interpretations of the seascape.
A 24 x 36 inch acrylic on canvas, “Rocks,” displays vividly colored rocks on a blue background.
“Halfmoon,” a 24 x 24 inch acrylic on canvas, presents the reflection of the moon in the color of the rocks.
Shying away from his previous landscapes, Isidro said he wanted more complex subjects in his art.
“All of these are reflections of landscapes na iba-iba ‘yung interpretation.… Ayoko nang gumawa [ng common] landscapes like trees. I want to go deeper sa sense of interpretation,” Isidro explained.
“Colorati” will run until Sep. 4.
