Fine arts sophomore Andrei Barrantes won third place in the digital fine arts category of the 52nd Shell National Students’ Art Competition last Nov. 11 in Makati.
Barrantes’ winning piece, “The Maker,” a 21.6 cm x 27.9 cm artwork, depicts a man sitting on a wooden stool as he sculpts a model of the earth.
“It is like a mirror. It is us that ‘The Maker’ depicts, and we are the ones who shape the world, to make it good or make it bad,” Barrantes told the Varsitarian.
This year’s competition had the theme “ImagineNation.”
The winning piece will be on display at Glorietta 4 in Makati until Nov. 23.
