UST Museum Director Fr. Isidro Abaño, O.P. has been elected to the executive board of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) Philippines.

Abaño, who has been head of the UST Museum since 1992, will serve a three-year term.
“The UST Museum is a longstanding institutional member of ICOM, with Fr. Abaño being one of the founding members of the ICOM University Museums and Collections (UMAC) Sub-Committee, established in Barcelona, Spain in 2001,” a post on the UST Museum’s Facebook page said.

Abaño served as board member of UMAC from 2013 to 2016 and spearheaded the UMAC International Conference hosted by UST in 2015.

Abaño concurrently serves as regent of the Faculty of Civil Law.

He has been coordinator of the Cultural Heritage Studies program of the Graduate School since 2000. He teaches at the Colleges of Architecture and Fine Arts and Design and the Faculty of Sacred Theology.

The ICOM Philippines executive board also includes artist and businessman Anthony Gedang, Ayala Museum senior manager of exhibitions and collections Aprille Tijam, applied anthropologist Joseph Lalo, Asian Institute of Maritime Studies president Arlene Abuid-Paderanga, and historian Ambeth Ocampo.

Voting was held during a general assembly last Jan. 12 at the Ateneo Art Gallery.
ICOM is an organization of museums and museum professionals, focusing on conserving the world’s natural and cultural heritage.
