THE UST Chorus of Arts and Letters raised a total of P82,553 from an online concert series and donation drive titled “Bangon Bayan, Bagong Bukas.”

Choir conductor Mark Agpasa said the project began after the group performed a virtual performance of the song “Umagang Kay Ganda.” The performance was supposed to be for the annual Himig Tomasino Intercollegiate Choral Competition, which was postponed due to the pandemic.

“After looking at how this performance impacted several members of the group and also our social media followers, we thought of making the project title ‘Bangon Bayan, Bagong Bukas,’ a project that would not only entertain our audiences, but also help those in need financially during this pandemic,” Agpasa told the Varsitarian in an online interview.

“That is why, we used the power of technology, our very talented members and alumni, in producing a daily Facebook live concert that helped advertise our donation drive,” he added.

The “Bangon Bayan, Bagong Bukas” concert series ran from May 3 – May 30 on the Chorus of Arts and Letters’ official Facebook page. The choir received donations from April 24 to June 5.

Beneficiaries of the fund drive were City Service campus maintenance personnel who were affected by quarantine restrictions. Neil Paolo S. Gonzales
