AN ADVERTISING arts alumnus emerged as a finalist in the DigitalArt4Climate art competition at the COP26 UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Scotland.
Bricx Martillo Dumas’ artwork, “Nexus,” was one of the 30 finalists and is the only entry from Southeast Asia that made it to the finals.
The digital artwork portrayed an image familiar to Filipinos: a hand holding a cigarette with leaves spewing out like smoke and a drink in a plastic container with a straw.
Dumas graduated from the UST College of Fine Arts and Design in 2012. He is taking his master’s degree in cultural heritage studies at the University.
A total of four winners will be awarded cash prizes, and their works will be exhibited in Glasgow.
The top winner will receive 1,500 euros, while three subtheme winners will receive 500 euros each.
Winners will be announced on Nov. 19.
DigitalArt4Climate is an art competition that “uses blockchain technology to turn art into digital assets” or nonfungible tokens (NFT).
It seeks to “use creativity to accelerate sustainable development and climate action.”
