A FILM made by writer-director Rudolfo “Jun” Lana Jr. has been selected to participate in the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF), which will run from Nov. 12 to 18 in Tallinn, Estonia.

The award-winning filmmaker was the first to win Gawad Ustetika’s Literary Award in 1991. He graduated from the UST Faculty of Arts and Letters in 1992.

Lana’s “Big Night!” was the only Filipino film in the festival’s main competition, which has a total of 19 finalists.

The dark comedy follows beautician Dharna, portrayed by Christian Babbles, who tries to clear his name after finding out he is part of a watch-list of suspected drug users and pushers.

Through the film, Lana gives a different perspective of the war on drugs by making the protagonist ignorant of his own role in the situation.

Lana has won 11 Palanca Awards for Literature and was the youngest member of the Palanca Hall of Fame in 2006.

PÖFF holds the privilege bestowed by the Federation of the Association of Film Critics, of holding international competition programs without any geographic restrictions. It was established in 1997. Nolene Beatrice H. Crucillo
