COLLEGE of Fine Arts and Design (CFAD) Regent Rev. Fr. Edgardo D. Alaurin, O.P.’s graphic novel “Cargasus” won gold under the category of “excellence in customer empowerment” in the “PANAta awards 2021: Hilaraya.”
The novel features a protagonist that has the speed and agility of the mythical creature, Pegasus, and the heft and strength of the country’s water buffalo, a carabao, whose faith helps others overcome the forces of evil.
Even with mythological elements, the novel is “very human and very Filipino,” the Dominican priest said following the launch of “Cargasus” at the Beato Angelico Gallery on Nov. 22, 2020.
The novel served as entertainment for readers during the pandemic, he said.
“We are affected by the things that happen to the world and so we need some kind of relaxation and entertainment,” Alaurin said.
Unilever Philippines Inc. bagged silver with its project “Challenging Traditional Beauty Standards through inclusivity and empowerment to celebrate everyone’s own beautiful” and Pilipinas Shell petroleum won bronze in the 53rd Shell National Students Art Competition.
“Our new realities may be uncertain, but we face the challenges that come with the new normal,” said Ken Lerona, PANAta Awards 2021 chairman, in his speech on the call for entries for the awards show.
The theme of the competition is “Hilaraya,” which signifies moving forward together with courage toward new realities.
The PANAta Awards is organized by the Philippine Association of National Advertisers (PANA). The award-giving body highlights excellence in effective marketing communication campaigns.
The awards night was streamed on Dec. 8 via PANA FB Live and the PANA official Youtube Channel.
