PHARMACY sophomore Maria Andrea Endicio bagged the Miss Galaxy Philippines 2019 crown in the pageant’s final round last Oct. 18 at Shangri-La The Fort in Taguig.

Endicio told the Varsitarian she had to balance academics and pageant activities for three months.

“I had to sacrifice and let go a lot of things for this pageant, but thankfully, it was all worth it,” Endicio said in an interview.

The 19-year-old’s advocacy focused on antimicrobial resistance awareness, aiming to spread consciousness on how improper use of medication causes pathogenic microorganisms to develop and become drug-resistant.

“It’s quite unique as an advocacy for a beauty queen but I am sure that this is doable and could contribute to saving us from this global health threat,” the Candelaria, Quezon native added.

Endicio is set to represent the country in the Miss Galaxy International competition on July 2020 in Chicago, Illinois.
