THE NEWEST member of the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC), the body that screens nominees to the judiciary, is looking to digitalize the process.
Thomasian lawyer Nesauro Firme was selected to represent the academe in the seven-member panel recommending court appointees to the president.
Firme, 44, cited the need for an online system to applicants nationwide and fill up court vacancies more quickly.
“Imagine, there are already several judges retired in NCR [for example], but it would take two years to start finding a replacement,” he told the Varsitarian.
“We have to be impartial. We have to be sensible. These are the virtues of Thomasians.”
Firme, a San Martin de Porres scholar, finished legal management from the Faculty of Arts and Letters in 1999 and earned his law degree in 2003. He passed the bar the following year. M.F.D. Reyes and K.M. Tsang
