THE UST Publishing House will launch Palanca-winning screenwriter Ricky Lee’s short story collection “Servando Magdamag at Iba Pang Maikling Kwento” on Dec. 14.

The launch will be held virtually and streamed via the publishing house’s Facebook page.

The collection is named after Lee’s short story “Servando Magdamag,” which won first prize in the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards in 1970.

The titular character is the last remaining heir to an oppressive family of Spanish hacenderos. It depicts Philippine society’s long history of violence rule by plunderers.

Lee was imprisoned during the Martial Law era and his experience with state oppression and resistance influenced his short stories and characters.

The collection features an “author’s note” for each story that details his creative process.

The virtual launch will be hosted by  John Lapus with guest readings from film and TV personalities John Arcilla, Christian Bables, Joem Bascon, Ketchup Eusebio, Agot Isidro, Sandino Martin, and Alden Richards. Samantha Fatima C. Creencia
