FOLLOWING tradition, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo graced the internationally acclaimed UST Singers’ homecoming concert at the Philam Life Auditorium last Sept. 9.

The UST Singers had performed for former President and UST alumnus Diosdado Macapagal and for First Lady Evangelina Macaraeg-Macapagal in 1997, and for former President Fidel Ramos in 1996.

The concert titled Per Sempre was the first concert attended by the President since she assumed office in January.

The concert featured a predominantly Filipino repertoire, which ended with nationalistic songs arranged by Prof. Fidel Calalang, the choir’s conductor.

The choir recently returned from international tour which covered California, Hawaii, and Mexico. In the tour, it bested 12 other choirs from all over the world for the Best Choir title in the Second Festival Mundial de Coros (World Choral Festival) in Puebla, Mexico.

In addition, the concert enabled the choir to attend the 2001 Kalayaan Celebrations in Honolulu, Hawaii, a festival of choral groups in the Pacific.

Founded in 1992, the UST Singers is a 33-member choir composed of students and UST alumni. Marie Carisa U. Ordinario
