TWO THOMASIAN doctors were given the Philippine Medical Association (PMA) Award for their outstanding performance in Medicine during the association’s fellowship night last May 24 at the Manila Midtown Hotel.

Dr. Francisco Dizon was awarded the PMA Outstanding Professional Service Award for his exceptional performance as an internist-cardiologist.

Dizon graduated from the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in 1952 and was a faculty member of the University for 35 years.

Among his previous awards were: the 1994 Distinguished Teacher Award by the Philippine College of Physicians, the 1991 Distinguished Scientists Award given by the Philippine Heart Association (PHA), and the 1985 Ecasiano Award for being the Outstanding Component Society President of PMA. The UST Medical Alumni Association also awarded him the Talaan Pangdangal Award in 1985.

Last June 20, Dizon was also recognized by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) as an Outstanding Professional in the field of Medicine during the Professional Regulation Week at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

On the other hand, Dr. Elaine Cunanan, a second-year resident at the Medicine Department of Santo Tomas University Hospital, was given the PMA Award for being the board topnotcher of the 2000 Physician Licensure Examination. She graduated magna cum laude from the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery.

The last Thomasian to be awarded by the PMA was Grace Dy, a summa cum laude graduate, who topped the board in 1999. Girard R. Carbonell
